OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Fox TV Stations

FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

FOX 29 is not your traditional news station. We are a team of creatives who love to “Go There”—challenging the status quo with a non-traditional format, vibrant energy, and a commitment to authentic storytelling. If you are a visionary director who thrives under pressure and wants to actively shape the future of local television, we want you in our control room.

The Role

We are seeking a creative, experienced Newscast Director to lead the production and execution of all on-air newscasts, original programming, and all other on-air productions. This isn’t a job where you just push buttons; you will be a key collaborative voice, working closely with producers and on-air talent to bring the vision of our broadcasts to life.

What You’ll Do

  • Direct & Technical Direct: Lead live, fast-paced newscasts and original programming using cutting-edge production automation technology.
  • Collaborate & Innovate: Actively contribute creative ideas and partner with producers and talent to elevate the visual storytelling and pacing of our non-traditional format.
  • Graphics Coordination: Coordinate and create selected on-air graphics to enhance production value.
  • Lead the Crew: Effectively communicate with the control room crew and studio personnel to ensure seamless, high-quality broadcasts.
  • Stay Agile: Stay calm and focused under intense deadline pressure, making split-second decisions while maintaining a sharp attention to detail.
  • Other Duties: Adapt and assist with other production duties as assigned to support the station's goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2–3 years of control room experience is required.
    • Ideal candidate: 2+ years of directing experience in a top 20 market, or 3+ years in smaller markets.
  • Technical Savvy: Ability to direct—or quickly learn to direct—using production automation. Knowledge of Sony ELC, Chyron, and Tricaster experience is a major plus.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional communication skills with the ability to articulate creative visions clearly to producers and talent.
  • Flexibility: Must have a flexible schedule with the availability to support various shifts and operational coverage as required by a 24/7 news environment.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • A professional who is sensitive to deadlines, possesses a meticulous eye for detail, and is excited to work outside the traditional news mold.

Why Join FOX 29?

If you are tired of cookie-cutter news and want the freedom to innovate in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, this is your sandbox.
