JOB DESCRIPTION

America’s Newsroom is looking for an experienced, dynamic, and creative Senior Producer to join the leadership team of one of television’s top-rated morning news programs. This role is ideal for an editorial leader who thrives in a fast-paced breaking news environment and wants to play a meaningful role in shaping the daily direction of the show. We are looking for someone who brings ideas and can identify compelling stories, elevate coverage, anticipate tomorrow’s headlines, and help develop the next generation of producers. This position primarily supports next-day planning and editorial development during an afternoon/evening shift, while serving as a key member of the senior leadership team and filling in on daytime broadcasts as needed.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead next-day editorial planning and help shape daily coverage priorities
  • Proactively identify compelling stories, guests, soundbites, visual elements, social trends, and developing news that can drive coverage
  • Generate original segment ideas and creative approaches to storytelling
  • Monitor breaking news throughout the day and adjust editorial priorities as stories evolve, ensuring accurate and timely content makes the broadcast
  • Anticipate major political events, breaking news, and enterprise opportunities while helping build and maintain future planning calendars
  • Mentor producers, associate producers, and other members of the editorial team
  • Fill in as Senior Producer on daytime shifts, including leading editorial meetings, overseeing rundowns, and managing breaking news coverage from the control room
  • Partner on special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned
  • Identify opportunities to improve newsroom workflows and leverage emerging technologies to enhance editorial planning and production efficiency while maintaining the highest editorial standards.

 WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field of study preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Experience producing and line producing live television news
  • Demonstrated control room leadership and breaking news experience
  • Exceptional editorial judgment and deep knowledge of politics, current events, and national news
  • Proven ability to generate original editorial ideas and identify compelling television
  • Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, make confident editorial decisions, and manage multiple priorities
  • Experience collaborating with on-air talent and cross-functional teams
  • Attention to detail and ability to thrive under deadline pressure
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and evolving newsroom workflows
  • Desire to mentor others and grow into broader editorial leadership responsibilities

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $114,000.00-150,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
