In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. JOB DESCRIPTION

The station is seeking a highly professional, sharp, and adaptable Per Diem / Fill-In News Anchor to join our team. This position requires an experienced journalist who can step onto the anchor desk or into the field at a moment's notice to deliver compelling, authoritative, and accurate live newscasts. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional ad-libbing skills, thrives under the pressure of breaking news, and can seamlessly integrate with different production teams and co-anchors across various dayparts.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Anchor Live Newscasts: Prepare for and execute live, compelling television newscasts as a solo or co-anchor, maintaining a high level of professionalism, authority, and engaging viewer connection.

 

Breaking News & Ad-libbing: Effectively process, prioritize, and communicate information clearly and accurately during unscripted, fast-paced situations such as breaking news, extended rolling coverage, or live interviews.

 

Adaptable Studio & Field Presence: Work seamlessly from the anchor desk, studio set, or live in the field using standard broadcasting equipment, demonstrating excellent knowledge of the Los Angeles market, vocal delivery, and pronunciation.

 

Editorial Leadership: Review, write, and copy-edit scripts prior to airtime to ensure clear, concise storytelling that adheres to newsroom style, proper grammar, and format standards.

 

Daily News Collaboration: Actively participate in editorial meetings when on shift, bringing fresh story ideas and leveraging a deep knowledge of current local, national, and international events.

 

Technical Proficiency: Use newsroom computer systems to write and edit scripts.

Team Collaboration: Work effectively and harmoniously on short notice with diverse newsroom staff, including news managers, producers, directors, photojournalists, and engineers.

 

Professional Standards: Maintain a professional on-air appearance based on newsroom standards and company policy. Represent the station positively at public appearances or community events as requested.

 

REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS

Education: BA/BS degree or equivalent in Journalism, Mass Communications, or a related field preferred.

 

Experience: Proven track record of on-air anchoring experience in a television newsroom (audition reel required).

 

On-Air Excellence: Exceptional vocal delivery, strong phrasing, proper grammar, and a dynamic, authoritative on-camera presence.

 

Extreme Flexibility: Must be willing and able to work an unpredictable, on-call schedule, which includes short-notice shifts, overnights, early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

 

Journalistic Skills: Strong writing and copy-editing skills with a deep knowledge of AP style, newsroom ethics, and defamation laws.

 

Stress Management: Proven ability to handle extreme stress and tight deadlines, maintaining a calm and commanding demeanor during breaking news.

 

Physical & Technical Demands: Must be able to work at a computer or stand on set for extended periods. Must be able to drive a company vehicle and adhere to company driving policies.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $52.67 per hour.
