JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re seeking an experienced Lead Audio Operator to support live studio and remote productions. This role is responsible for mixing and managing broadcast audio, maintaining intercom and audio systems, and ensuring consistent, high-quality sound across all productions. You’ll work closely with production and engineering teams while helping guide and support less experienced audio staff in a fast-paced live environment.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as Lead A1 for remote and studio productions

  • Design, build, and operate complex live audio workflows including studio and remote translations and transcriptions

  • Operate and program advanced digital mixing on Calrec consoles for live newscasts and production

  • Program and maintain intercom systems including Calrec RTS ADAM/AZ Edit environments

  • Collaborate with production, engineering and technical management teams to ensure seamless integration of audio systems and workflows

  • Lead, mentor, and set expectations for less experienced mixers and freelance audio staff

  • Ensure consistency, clarity, and creative excellence in all elements of broadcast audio (studio mics, effects, music, IFB, comms, etc.)

  • Perform facility checks with A2 and stage manager for all mic and IFB positions in studio before daily production begins, including studio set up

  • Work with broadcast engineers to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues quickly under live broadcast pressure

  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of signal flow, routing, gain structure, and redundancy planning

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Experience with high-level, live broadcast audio mixing 

  • Expert-level proficiency with digital mixing consoles including Calrec, RTS intercom systems, AZ Edit, Dante, and AoIP audio networks

  • Solid signal flow knowledge (analog, digital, embedded audio)

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Availability to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays

  • Ability to work in a control room for 2-3 hours without a break

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $35.50-50.00 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
