We are looking for a transformational leader to join the Product T technology Team as the Director of Engineering & Delivery. As the Director, you will lead our multi-platform digital product organization across Web, Mobile, CTV, and orchestration services. Stepping into this role you will oversee Engineering, PMO, and QA — bringing unified accountability to technical execution, delivery predictability, quality, and operational rigor.
As local news continues to progress from linear to streaming and our development practices evolve toward AI-driven workflows, this is an exciting opportunity to modernize execution, increase velocity, reduce technical debt, and build a high-performing, product-aligned engineering culture.
This role reports to the SVP of Product & Technology and partners closely with Product leadership to translate roadmap priorities into scalable, reliable, high-quality digital experiences.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Leadership Across Platforms
Lead engineering teams across Web, Mobile, CTV, and API services.
Ensure scalable, maintainable, performant systems that support streaming and content delivery at scale.
Improve engineering standards, development practices, and technical discipline.
Identify structural inefficiencies and implement improvements.
Drive down technical debt while maintaining delivery velocity.
Establish pragmatic architectural alignment across platforms (without creating unnecessary process overhead).
Delivery Predictability & Execution
Product owns prioritization and roadmap definition. This role owns execution quality and delivery confidence.
Own end-to-end delivery execution for product initiatives.
Lead PMO, project managers, and scrum masters to improve planning rigor, forecasting accuracy, and cross-team coordination.
Implement systems and metrics that increase visibility into systems health and transparency.
Remove bottlenecks and reduce cycle time from concept to release.
Improve release management and dependency management across teams.
QA & Quality Engineering
Oversee QA under a dedicated QA Lead.
Elevate automation, regression practices, and quality gates.
Integrate QA earlier into the development lifecycle.
Minimize escaped defects and production issues.
Build a culture of shared quality ownership across engineering.
AI-Driven Engineering Transformation
Drive adoption of AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
Improve developer productivity through modern tooling, automation, and process redesign.
Reimagine SDLC practices for a faster, more adaptive product organization.
Partner with Product and Data to enable faster experimentation cycles.
Organizational Leadership & Culture
Lead and develop Engineering Managers, PMO leaders, and QA leadership.
Understand our codebases intimately and contribute when needed.
Build a culture that is product-minded, accountable, collaborative, and high-ownership.
Collaborate effectively with centrally owned platform teams (e.g., Profile, CMS, Video Player).
Influence shared roadmaps while aligning to local product needs.
Navigate internal dependencies and organizational complexity to unblock execution.
Break down traditional silos between Product and Engineering, especially during solutioning and discovery phases.
Recruit and scale talent strategically as needed.
Establish clear performance expectations and career paths.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED
10+ years of engineering leadership experience, including multi-platform digital products. With a focus on Reactjs, React Native, Roku, Swift/Kotlin, and Go languages.
Experience leading engineering in media, streaming, consumer tech, or high-scale digital environments.
Proven ability to improve execution rigor and delivery predictability.
Experience overseeing PMO or delivery organizations.
Strong understanding of mobile, web, backend architectures, and streaming ecosystems.
Experience navigating federated technology organizations.
Demonstrated success driving modernization initiatives (automation, AI adoption, DevOps improvements).
Strong executive communication and stakeholder management skills.
