OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANY

Fox Corporation

Under the FOX banner, we produce and distribute content through some of the world’s leading and most valued brands, including: FOX News Media, FOX Sports, FOX Entertainment, FOX Television Stations and Tubi Media Group. We empower a diverse range of creators to imagine and develop culturally significant content, while building an organization that thrives on creative ideas, operational expertise and strategic thinking.

JOB DESCRIPTION

At AdRise, we build cutting-edge advertising capabilities for Tubi and across the Fox portfolio of brands across Sports, Entertainment and News, and including Fox One, the new direct to consumer streaming service.

Before streaming became industry standard, AdRise powered Tubi's growth from the ground up by developing real-time ad delivery and dynamic targeting infrastructure that scaled to serve hundreds of millions. That same tech foundation is now fueling FOX's cross-portfolio monetization strategy. Put simply, we are creating the most efficient, intelligent, and transparent advertising ecosystem in the world, starting with streaming.

We are enhancing the in-house ad tech stack by optimizing server-side delivery, building ML-driven targeting systems, and enabling content-personalized ad experiences that respond to what viewers actually watch. From real-time decisioning to data collaboration with AWS and Databricks, we are creating a smarter, more dynamic ad tech ecosystem. The problems are complex, the visibility is high, and the platform is built for impact. If you want to work at the center of streaming monetization on systems that touch hundreds of billions of impressions and shape the next generation of personalized advertising, this is your platform.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate the media processing platform for ad creatives: transcoding, packaging, transcription, brand detection, content rating, and ad media review. You will contribute to system design, build and maintain critical online services and pipelines, and be responsible for autoscaling and reliability to ensure timely, low‑latency processing at scale.

Service Architecture & Reliability

  • Architect and evolve microservices and workflows that power the ad media processing system; author architecture design documents; participate in reviews.
  • Own service availability, p99 latency, and throughput SLOs; drive autoscaling and capacity planning for high‑traffic and high‑throughput processing.

  • Implement multi‑region readiness: redundancy, traffic shifting, canary/blue‑green rollout, and safe rollback.

  • Define gRPC/protobuf and event/queue contracts and compatibility policy; enforce deadlines, timeouts, and retries.

  • Implement resilience patterns including idempotency, retries, timeouts, fallbacks, rate limiting, and circuit breakers to ensure reliability.

Performance & Scale

  • Perform performance modeling and capacity planning; forecast peak events and growth.

  • Reduce p99/p999 latency via concurrency control, batching, prefetching, and adaptive timeouts.

  • Design data locality and artifact caching; manage Redis use, cleanup, and key handling..

  • Build burst‑tolerant workflows with queues/streams; enforce backpressure and graceful degradation.

  • Design, implement, and maintain autoscaling policies, validate with load tests.

  • Optimize cost/perf: profiling, CPU/memory tuning, autoscaling tuning, and efficient data access.

Observability & Operations

  • Build comprehensive observability into services and pipelines through metrics, tracing, and structured logging.

  • Define and maintain SLIs/SLOs, set actionable alerts, and ensure system reliability through robust monitoring.

  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response; lead postmortems and drive long-term fixes.

  • Practice chaos/failure testing, load tests; maintain runbooks and readiness checks.

Security & Compliance

  • Implement secure authentication/authorization, secret management, and data privacy best practices.

  • Ensure data privacy/retention and auditability; partner with Security and Legal on policies.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 8+ years building production backend systems; experience owning critical online services.

  • Expertise in distributed systems, concurrency, and performance engineering.

  • Proficiency in Golang or Elixir (both preferred); strong code quality and review standards.

  • Deep experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure‑as‑Code (Terraform).

  • Strong with PostgreSQL and Redis; streaming/queueing experience a plus.

  • Experience with object storage and queues/streams.

  • Track record of raising reliability (SLOs, error budgets) and improving on‑call quality.

NICE TO HAVE, BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER

  •  Media processing expertise (transcoding/packaging: ffmpeg, HLS/DASH; brand/logo detection; content safety/rating; ad media review).

  • Led large incidents and resilience programs (chaos, fault injection, multi‑region).

  • Proven cost optimization at scale and data‑driven performance tuning.

  • Experience with experimentation platforms, traffic controls, and privacy‑aware data practices.
