FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. These stations leverage viewer, distributor and advertiser demand for the FOX Network’s national content.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary

The Assignment Editor will work with Reporters, Photographers, Producers, and other staff members to select, develop, and plan reporting assignments. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following duties.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Manage daily editing and work with current, state-of-the-art equipment in a non-linear environment.
• Meet daily news deadlines, often under strict time constraints and high-activity situations.
• Respond quickly to Producers’ requests for shows and edited elements for broadcasts.
• Establish guidelines and use best judgment to select the best video for each story based on the Producers’ needs.
• Maintain open communication with News Director and all station personnel to efficiently, thoroughly, and professionally complete news assignments.
• Set up, adjust, assemble, control, test, and operate station equipment to meet editing requirements.
• Regularly receive and distribute media, information, and instruction via phone, headset, e-mail, etc. to station personnel or production teams in a live news environment.
• Constantly move throughout the station and the department to ascertain and coordinate editing needs.
• Visually and audibly assess video content, on-air look, and audio tracks for live news or news video.
• Responsible for quality assurance on each piece of video sent to playback.
• Attend and participate in any company training seminars, meetings or other attendance required events.
• Demonstrate responsibility for all equipment issued by FOX.
• Comply with all FOX Corporate computer requirements.
• Comply with all FOX Corporate and station policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Demonstrated competency with all news editing software and programs.

• Proficiency with MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently under daily pressure and successfully manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule that may require nights, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and emergency scenarios.

• Ability to work overtime, varied hours, holidays, and weekends as required.

Education and Experience

• One (1) year of experience preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Radio/TV, or related discipline preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working at a computer.
• Regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
• Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $38.01 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
